New Undergraduate student induction procedure

All undergraduate students are required to read the Undergraduate Safety Manual and to sign the accompanying OH&S Declaration form. The form will be collected in class. Students should also inform themselves of the policies and procedures of the University as documented on the UNSW Risk Management website

New Research Students Induction Procedure

All new research students are required to complete an "Induction Checklist for Research Students" with their supervisors. They should also inform themselves of the policies and procedures of the University as documented on the UNSW Risk Management website

The School of EE&T has an OHS Committee to implement OHS policy and procedures.

The School Occupational Health & Safety Committee meets regularly to consider the safety aspects of the School in all of its activities, including teaching and research and associated operations, administration and any other activities that may occur within the School. The committee is responsible for performing risk assessments of all of the School activities listed above. It also is responsible for disseminating any safety related material that is issued by the University OH&S Office and for apprising School staff and students of any relevant safety matters that may arise within the School.

Any matters relating to safety issues should be notified to the appropriate person. Such matters might include the following:

Potential hazards noticed within the School in any of its activities.
Any accidents which occur to you or to any other person-all such accidents should be reported, even those that appear to be relatively innocuous.
Advice on any new safety matters that may arise in new activities and that are not covered in existing saftety guidelines.

The School has a number of laboratories which are potentially hazardous, including electrical, fire, laser, chemical and mechanical risks. Staff and students must be aware of these hazards.

There will be, on occasions, emergency drills run in the School and when these occur it is imperative that all persons obey the directions of the appropriate Floor Wardens in the building. In the case of an evacuation of the building all personnel should evacuate the building and move to the closest assembly point outside the building. These will be indicated by the Floor Wardens.

There are also emergency notices on each floor (near the lifts) and in most laboratories. These will provide information on contacts for help in the event of an accident. In particular they list the nearest first aid assistance in the School and the contact telephone number for security.
